My B-Style Piece

I know you all may have suspected it, but I wasn't about to chump out on my own topic, lol. I had to redo this piece with a bw value study first, as I mentioned in my last comment to Jair, because my values got out of whack really fast when I jumped right into the color. I tried to experiment with the color scheme on the cover of Orange. There were some things that maybe made that color scheme a little less successful here, since my ref only really included one single direct light and then massive amounts of ambient bounce light, as apposed to the dual light source from the Orange cover. Also Maria doesn't have dark hair, which seemed to be a pretty key source of the strong orange for Mr. B.

I worked off a photo of Maria for reference. I know the likeness isn't totally there, but after a while I was really just trying to get the values and colors down right, and the features started to get kind of smushed around. I tend to do this to things when I paint over my drawing, both with traditional and digital... gotta work on this.

At any rate, here it is. My bw value study seems to hold up better than the colored one, but I think I still like it.

WIP

I started doodling about five hours ago and figured that if I posted it I could break the cycle and go to bed.
I plan to fill up the space on the right with WW2 style fighters, using graphics in the same color as the pants.
Crits?

Here is some progress, hopefully.
Thanks for the helpful comments.

Progress

I still need to shoot some ref for the pants and feet.
I'm not sure about what to do with the nearest cluster of flora.

I'm pretty sure that this is the final. Any thoughts?

BenJmin piece!

I'm a bit inexperienced with the Painter, but i decided to give this one a go.

Jake's Benjamin piece

Well, who would have thought that I of all people would be jumping the gun on this one - especially since I hardly ever post here? :P Anyway, this is my Benjamin-inspired piece for the week. Decided to cater it towards my own graphic novel project so I worked up a mock cover with all the type and doodads. Definitely had fun with this. Good pick Raz.

P.S. - Hopefully this goes without saying to most of us on here, but just to be safe......This piece is in no way affiliated with, or endorsed by, Dark Horse Comics. I just used the logo as a mock place holder - and because I like Dark Horse.

Master Study

Hey everyone. I know it's been forever and a half ago since I've posted anything - or even made an appearance - out here. I'll be trying to join in on the fun this week with the Benjamin Orange (?) pieces. In any case, here's a little master study I got caught up in this week. It's a digital study of Carlos de Haes' "The Mancorbo Canal in the Picos de Europa." I just came across the piece in a book while I was working at the library and it just got me really excited (if ya know what I mean. :P). Anyway, see what you think. Looking forward to seeing the pieces at the end of the week!

Haha sorry for the mix up :P

Sorry about that i was signed in under Leo's profile when i was helping him set stuff up. I didn't realize i was still signed in under his profile when I posted fruit punch, until Raz brought it to my attention. I decided just to post the sketch this time under my own profile :D Can't wait for the crazy Benjamin pieces should be some killer colors on here next weekend!

New Topic: Benjamin Inspired Piece

New Weekly Topic!

Yo, yo! All you playa hate-ahs out there. This next challange is a tough one.

Step 1. Look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAljGuKzzaI (watch it in high quality, if you so desire)

Step 2. Look here: http://images.google.com/images?q=Orange+Benjamin&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=9WZOSv0m06S3B5PRpaAE&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1

Step 3. Study the style, in particular, the usage of color.

Step 4. Create your own piece inspired by Benjamin (the name that this artist goes by, I guess). Try to really push the colors.

Step 5. Have fun, and try to finish it and post by next Sunday.

Ciao!
